Childhood Obesity Statistics show that:
The remarkable rise in childhood obesity among children is the most critical public health challenge we face today. Despite widespread attention to the problem, the number of kids who are overweight is still growing. The obesity rise is projected to rise 20 percent by 2010, according to (Orange County Register.) According to the CDC, obesity is a major public health concern in the United States. CDC statistics indicate that between 1980 and 2002, the proportion of children and adolescents ages 6 through 19 who were overweight more than tripled. Obesity now affects over 15 percent of children and adolescents and more than 10 percent of children ages, two through five are overweight. Children and adolescents who are overweight are at an increased risk for heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and social discrimination that can lead to poor self-esteem and depression. Danielle authored the book, If You Want to Play...Eat the Right Way, for the Los Angeles Angels and the Miller Children's Hospital. This book was distributed at the kid's day in the park to thousands of children. She received national attention as the Fox Sports West TV Network featured several shots of the book on television. It also aired on MLB radio in both English and Spanish... and is presented on the Angels website.
