he creators of the Temptation of a Generation tween book series are visiting schools nationwide to educate parents, students, and administrators of the potential dangers of today’s most popular technologies. Their eye opening presentation will help open a dialog at your Elementary School about the effects of technology on our children. Do you know how to keep your children safe in this digitally distracted world? Our children live in a fast-paced, technology driven society! Information is received and transmitted in seconds, and kids are more connected to one another and the world than ever before. They share minute-by-minute thoughts, feelings and actions through ‘tweets’, text messages and ‘status updates.’ The Internet has enabled our students to access a wealth of educational resources and tools with just the click of a mouse. However, these popular technologies have also opened the door to a host of safety and interpersonal problems for our youth. Children were once bullied on the playground; now they are bullied online at all hours of the day and night. We used to need a quarter to make a phone call, while today’s kids have cell phones on them 24/7. Text messages are sent and received at all hours, some containing harmful or inappropriate material. Times have dramatically changed! The goal of our presentation is to educate parents and students of the potential risks associated with today’s technologies. We offer real-life examples, resources, and tools that will help parents in raising technologically responsible children. We strive to raise awareness, encourage empathy, and promote smart cyber choices. Through education and the sharing of our experiences, we can make a difference in the lives of our children.
